This is what most students do when they think about learning
grammar rules.
Hopefully, when you're done reading this page, your students
will be doing this!!!!
We all know grammar is boring. You hate teaching it, students hate learning it.
So what can you do????
Make it fun!!!
Use games to brighten up the experience. Even high
school students love rewards!!!!
- Use a jeopardy-type game for grammar rules. One answer could be:
"The abbreviated form of it is."
The student could answer:
"What is "it's"?
Students could take turns answering questions in teams, and the winning team could get tons of candy!
Don't just demonstrate the grammar for the students who
are dozing off, let them demonstrate it for the rest
of the class, maybe even for extra credit!!! (you know, incentives always get the students motivated)
Last but not least, don't make teaching grammar a chore.
If you are excited about teaching grammar rules, then
your students will be excited about learning it!!! Apply these rules to how the students speak in their daily lives--
if they can relate to it, they can learn it faster!!
